I recently watched a documentary on digital nomads which showcased individuals who earned an income online while travelling to beautiful countries.

As an affiliate marketer, I can personally relate and know what its like to wake up in the morning, not have to get dressed and drive to a job I hate having created revenue generating websites.

The internet has created a digital economy that has allowed many to become self employed, work from home, live like celebrities, earn a significant income and in some cases become multi-millionaires.

In this article we’re going to explore internet careers that have popped up over the last decade or more.

1. YouTuber

PewDiePie

Google acquired YouTube in 2006 and by 2008 they introduced their advertising platform which allowed publishers to monetize their channels and earn an income.

While this can seem like a dream job, only 3 percent of YouTubers get 90% of th overall traffic and most of the 3 percent can’t make a living.

PewDiePie is a famous YouTuber who earns an estimated $8 million dollars per month.

2. Affiliate Marketer

Websites such as UpWork and Fiverr are two websites that allow freelancers to make money online by applying for jobs or posting gigs in graphic design, web development, search engine optimization, article writing and other virtual tasks.

UpWork allows freelancers to bid on contracts posted by individuals and businesses while Fiverr allows individuals to post ‘gigs’ or tasks for a set dollar amount.

4. Podcaster

Joe Rogan Podcast

The Joe Rogan Podcast is my personal favorite. It’s estimated Joe earns $30K per podcast.

The podcast world has been around for over a decade are are basically radio shows on the internet. Truthfully they have been around for almost two decades but have become a prominent medium in the last decade for anyone including pundits and experts to gain an audience and yes, even make an income.

Postcasts typically earn their income from announcing commercials, Patreon and even going on tours.

Some podcasts such as “Pardon My Take” have reported earnings over $50K per episode.

5. Instagram Influencer

In 2006, Facebook purchased Instagram for $1 billion. It has since become one of the largest social media platforms.

The top influencer on instram is Kylie Jenner who earns $1.26 million per post. Of course if you are already famous, then having a popular Instagram account is like shooting fish in a barrel.

Many have become influencers through promoting brands, integrating affiliate marketing or selling their own services.

6. Twitch Gamer

Tyler ‘Ninja’ Blevins is estimated to earn$423K per month on Twitch.

Twitch is a live video streaming service that is subsidiary of Amazon. It was first introduced in 2011 as an alternative to Justin.tv but has since taken off and become a platform well known by gamers.
